Frequently asked questions

Short, direct answers. If your question is not here, ask us by email.

About the condition

Is IJV compression a recognised condition?

It is described in the medical literature, and specialist interest in it has grown in recent years. Specialists still disagree about how best to diagnose it and when to treat it. This site tries to reflect that honestly.

Does a narrowed vein on my scan mean I have it?

Not necessarily. Narrowing can also appear in people without symptoms. A specialist needs to look at your images together with your history.

Is this the same as Eagle syndrome?

Not exactly. Eagle syndrome means symptoms caused by a long or angled styloid process. It is one possible cause of jugular vein compression, but not the only one.

Can this website tell me whether I have it?

No. This site gives general information. Only a specialist who reviews your records can give an opinion on your case.

Treatment

Will surgery cure my symptoms?

Nobody can promise that. Some patients report improvement, some report partial improvement, and some report none. The surgeon will explain what is realistic for you, and what the risks are.

I have already had surgery elsewhere. Can I still ask for a review?

Yes. Please send your operation notes, plus any imaging from before and after the surgery.

Do I have to travel to China?

Not for the first review, which is done remotely. Whether to travel later is entirely your decision.

Practical questions

How much does treatment cost?

This site is for information only. Fees and practical arrangements are handled by ChinaMedPass, and you can find them on chinamedpass.com.

Do the doctors speak English or Russian?

Please do not count on it. A ChinaMedPass coordinator interprets into English during consultations and hospital visits, and a Russian interpreter can be arranged.

What records should I send?

Imaging as DICOM files, radiology reports, letters from previous doctors, and the photo page of your international passport. Chinese hospitals register every patient by passport. The case review page has the full checklist.
